Cape Goudouras - Lagkada,
East Crete
The scenic coastal route from Goudouras to Lagada Beach in southeastern Crete is a 9.4 km drive along the Libyan Sea, offering visitors a mix of secluded beaches, charming chapels, and panoramic sea views.
Starting just west of Goudouras Cape, the road follows the shoreline next to the village beach, revealing beautiful turquoise waters and the peaceful atmosphere of this less-visited part of Crete.
Only a short drive from the starting point, Votsalaki is a small, “hidden” pebble beach considered one of the most beautiful in Crete. Its crystal-clear waters shift in color from green to blue and reddish tones. The western end is often visited by naturists seeking privacy.
Heading west, the coast is lined with quiet coves accessible directly from the road. The first is Kalami Beach, a peaceful pebble beach with a small freshwater spring and natural shade from rocky outcrops. Above the beach stands the quaint chapel of Agioi Saranta.
Close by, smaller coves such as Atherina offer a secluded experience. Atherina is located at the mouth of a narrow gorge with dramatic, cave-like rock walls, ideal for visitors looking for untouched beauty.
The road climbs higher, giving a panoramic view of the coastline before reaching the Holy Monastery of Timios Prodromos Kapsa. Built at the exit of the Pervolakia Gorge, the monastery overlooks Moni Kapsa Beach, a quiet spot perfect for a short swim or moment of reflection.
After passing through the small settlement of Kalo Nero, the road briefly returns to the shore before reaching Lagada Beach. This relatively remote pebble beach is shaded by tamarisk trees, and its western waters are cooler due to the stream Andromilos flowing into the sea.
This coastal drive is ideal for travelers seeking authentic Crete — a combination of unspoiled beaches, traditional chapels, and dramatic landscapes far from crowded resorts.
