Raftis
Situated northeast of Gergeri near the main road connecting Heraklion with Mires, Raftis is a quiet, deserted village that offers a glimpse into Crete's mid-20th-century rural past.

History & Abandonment:
Like many traditional agricultural hamlets across the island's interior, Raftis began to decline as economic opportunities shifted toward larger urban centers and coastal regions. By the 1960s, the village was completely abandoned by its inhabitants, leaving behind a tranquil settlement frozen in time.

Atmosphere & Architecture:
A walk through Raftis reveals crumbling stone dwellings, traditional archways, and overgrown courtyards gradually reclaimed by natural flora and olive groves. Its proximity to the main transport route makes it an easily accessible stop for those interested in rural history and abandoned Cretan architecture.

Rider’s/Explorer's Notes:
The Access: Located just off the primary road linking Heraklion to Mires, near Gergeri. Access is very straightforward via paved roads, with a brief side track leading directly into the quiet, ruined settlement.
