Abas Viewpoint (Treis Ekklisies)
Perched along the steep mountain switchbacks above the coastal settlement of Treis Ekklisies on the southern slopes of the Asterousia range, this viewpoint offers one of the most breathtaking panoramas on the Libyan Sea coast.

The Views & Landscape:
From this elevated vantage point, the landscape drops dramatically toward the sea. Looking across the sheer canyon walls, visitors get a direct, commanding view of the impressive Abas Gorge and its legendary waterfall—one of the highest vertical drops in Crete. Farther down, where the rugged cliffs meet the deep blue Libyan Sea, the remote coastal village of Treis Ekklisies (Three Churches) and its dark-sand beaches spread out across the shoreline.

The Environment:
The surrounding Asterousia Mountains are a protected Natura 2000 sanctuary, known for their harsh, arid beauty and high density of nesting birds of prey, including bearded vultures and griffon vultures, which are frequently seen soaring on the thermal winds right beside the road.

Rider’s/Explorer's Notes:
The Access: Located directly on the sweeping, asphalt mountain road that winds down from Paranymfi toward Treis Ekklisies. The road features steep gradients and tight hairpin turns, making it a thrilling ride with spectacular coastal vistas at every turn. There is a small pull-off area alongside the road where you can safely stop to take in the view.
