Rouvas, Wood,
Middle Crete
The Rouvas wood is a very important oak wood for the ecosystem. It covers about 30,000 acres on the slopes of the Psiloritis mountain. The trees have unusual size for Cretan conditions, 15 meters high and one meter diameter, which suggests that for some time the menace of the islands flora, the goat, has been removed from that area.
